At present fan communities actively take shape and abound on the Internet. These communities are not only devoted to characters and texts in traditional media, but also digital media creations. The subject of this article is the specifics of communities formed on the basis of a shared interest in internet-memes. These communities possess a significant number of features that characterise traditional fandoms, but the distinctive quality of ‘meme-fandoms’ is their varying intensity. For members of these communities, it is more vital to participate in playful, group interactions, than to define themselves strictly in relation to a specific text.
