Julia Velkova

Julia Velkova is a research fellow in Technology and Social Change at Linköping University, Sweden. Her interests are in digital culture, technologies and the socio-technical production of media infrastructures. She is currently involved in several research projects related to data centres in a Nordic context, including the project ‘Earth Stations and Data Centers: Network buildings as transnational infrastructures and logistical media’, funded by the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), which has partially supported the research presented in this visual essay. Velkova has previously written on computer graphics production infrastructures in Siberia and Amsterdam, and her work has appeared in journals such as New Media & Society, Big Data & Society, and International Journal of Cultural Studies, among others.
